All about our Indian manufacture carpets

The manufacture of a carpet in India implies many steps, which we detail below:

The design : The first step is the design of our new collection. The choice of colors, shape, design and materials make the particularity of our brand. This is an essential step that determines the rest of the production process. Once the drawing has been created by hand, we are setting up a carpet model using computer -assisted drawing software. This model will serve as a guide throughout the manufacturing process for our workshops in India.

The choice of materials : Indian carpets can be made from a variety of materials such as jute, wool, cotton, silk and recycled synthetic fiber (PET). The choice of materials depends on the style of carpet that we want to obtain.

Coloring : The process of coloring threads for the production of carpets in India is an essential step to obtain colorful and vibrant carpets. Here are the general steps of the thread coloring process:

  1. Preparation of the wires: The raw threads are cleaned and prepared for coloring. The impurities are removed using a brush and the wires are washed with hot water to remove all the dust or dirt that could affect coloring.
  2. Tincture of the wires: The wires are then immersed in dye tanks, which contain natural dyes. The tanks are heated to maintain the constant temperature, which allows dyes to penetrate evenly into the wires. The wires remain in the dye tanks until they have absorbed the desired color.
  3. Washing the wires: The dyed wires are then washed several times to remove any excess coloring and make them ready for the next production stage.
  4. Drying of the wires: The wires are dried in the open air. This makes it possible to ensure that the wires do not shrink and keep their shape and color.
  5. Wire's winding: The dyed and dried wires are then rolled up in coils for subsequent use in carpet production. The coils are labeled to indicate the color and the amount of wires in each coil.

Weaving : Indian carpets are hand woven on traditional weaving trades. The chain threads are fixed on the loom and the frame threads are woven through them to create the pattern.

Washing : After weaving, the carpet is carefully washed to eliminate all dirt and impurities. This step is important to ensure the quality of the final carpet.

The finish : Fixing the edges: The edges of the carpet are then fixed to prevent them from fraying or tearing themselves apart. This can be done using cotton or wool threads, which are sewn around the edges or using a technique called "overlock" which creates a relief border.

Final cleaning : The carpet is carefully cleaned to remove any excess fiber or dust. This can be done using a vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to eliminate debris.

Final inspection : The carpet is carefully inspected to ensure that it is perfectly finished and that it has no defects. All imperfection is corrected before the carpet is ready for delivery.

The manufacture of a woven carpet in India is a long and complex process that requires expertise and experience. Indian craftsmen are renowned for their know-how and mastery of this traditional art, which has been transmitted from generation to generation for centuries.
