Care and cleaning of your carpet
You have found your happiness to personalize your interior
and have recently purchased a rug.
An essential accessory for a warm and harmonious interior, know that it is possible to preserve the appearance and texture of your rug over the long term by adopting the right gestures on a daily basis.
Installing your carpet: the right things to do
Upon receipt, it is advisable to let your rug air out in the open air and extend it to its full width so that it regains its original shape and freshness if necessary. Most carpets, especially those made of wool, when new, tend to fluff and shed excess fibers during the first few weeks. Please don't worry, this is normal and does not affect the quality of the mat. If a thread protrudes, it will be enough to cut them with scissors or thread them into the carpet with a hook.
When laying Kilim type flat woven rugs, we recommend the use of a non-slip base so that your rug is not in direct contact with the floor, which reduces dust retention and friction. Furthermore, to avoid partial wear and prolonged exposure of one side of the carpet, it is advisable to change the layout of the carpet on a regular basis.
Carpet maintenance: what is the procedure to follow?
For a good-looking effect at all times, the vacuum cleaner is your number one ally. Arm yourself with your vacuum cleaner on average once a week, respecting the direction of the bristles and raising the brush. For synthetic fibers, an annual thorough cleaning is recommended using a cleaning foam.
To revive the colors, you can moisten it with sparkling water, let it air dry and gently brush it in the direction of the pile. For more fragile carpets, it is advisable to call in a professional.
Tasks: how to overcome them?
To remove stains, it is important to act quickly and not let the stain dry out. The first steps are to soak up the liquid with a paper towel or an absorbent cloth until it disappears. Before applying a solution, we advise you to carry out a small test on a corner of your carpet. If all goes well, you can apply the mixture to the stain working from the edge towards the center so as not to spread the dirt on the clean areas.
Polypropylene carpet (synthetic wool):
Synthetic fiber rugs are very easy to clean and do not require any special measures. In the event of stains, simply dab the part concerned lightly with soapy water and rinse with clear water or vinegar water.
Cotton rug:
For cotton rugs, you can use liquid soap, neutral soap or ammonia.
Natural fiber rugs (Wool, Linen, Jute):
These models require more precautions. The use of a paper or cotton towel is recommended to effectively absorb liquids. For stubborn stains, using a white cotton cloth and a suitable neutral pH cleaner can save the day.
Cleaning a carpet depends on the origin of the stain. Here are some cleaning methods for different types of common stains:
1. For dust and dirt spots: vacuum the carpet. You can also use a soft brush to loosen stubborn dirt.
2.For coffee, tea or wine stains: dab the stain with a clean, dry cloth to absorb the liquid. Next, mix a tablespoon of white vinegar with a cup of water and dab the stain with this mixture. Repeat until the stain disappears.
3. For chewing gum stains: put ice cubes in a plastic bag and place it on the stain to harden it. Then, use a spatula to gently scrape off the chewing gum. If the stain persists, use chewing gum remover.
4. For dirt or mud stains: let the stain dry and brush it gently to remove as much dirt as possible. Then use carpet cleaner or a mixture of white vinegar and water to clean the stain.
It is important to test any cleaner on a small hidden area of the carpet before using it on a visible stain. This will ensure that there is no negative reaction with the mat material. If you're not sure which method to use or if the stain is very stubborn, it may be a good idea to hire a professional to clean your carpet.
