Choosing the right size rug for your interior
Important question before purchasing a new carpet:
“What size do I need for each room in the house?”
Whether you buy the rug first so that it becomes the source of your decor inspiration, or it is the finishing touch, choosing the right size remains essential.
A well-sized rug creates a room harmonious and balanced.
A rug is one of the centerpieces of your decoration. Proportion therefore plays a fundamental role.
The size and arrangement of the carpet in the living room
Place the rug under the sofa or in front?
There is no fixed rule. You can choose either option.
In any case, make sure that the length of the rug covers at least that of the sofa.
Once you have made your choice, visualize a frame on the ground to demarcate the area.
Use painter's adhesive or newspaper to better perceive the space occupied by the future carpet.
Then determine the size of this frame.
Do you want all your chairs to sit on top of the rug or placed around it?
This will help you choose the ideal width.
For a standard-sized living room, opt for a rug 160×230cm.
In a more spacious living room, choose a rug 200×290 cm.
If your space is very large, you can use several rugs arranged in a staggered pattern, respecting a harmony of colors.
Finally, remember that it is always possible to order a custom rug.
What size rug for the dining room?

For a beautiful dining room, make sure the chairs stay entirely on the carpet, even when pushed back to sit down.
A rug that is too small leaves the chairs half out, which is detrimental to the aesthetic. To determine the correct mat size:
-
Move all the chairs back, as if you were going to sit down.
-
Leave them in place.
-
Measure the total space occupied by the table and chairs pushed back.
These dimensions will tell you the ideal size of rug to choose.
For example, for a table for 6 to 8 people, a carpet of 200×290 cm is generally suitable. -
Which rug for bedrooms:
1. The adult bedroom
GALUCHAT rug
You can arrange a rug in different ways in a bedroom.
The most common is to place it perpendicular to the bed, slipped half under it, in front of the bedside tables.
This provision optimizes the useful surface area of the carpet.
It also allows you to place your feet on a soft and comfortable material when you wake up.
For a single bed (90×190 cm), a rug 120×170 cm offers approximately 40 cm on each side and 80cm at the end of the bed.
For a double bed (160×200 cm), a rug 160×230 cm gives you 35 cm on each side and approximately 60cm at the foot of the bed.
The surface area available at the end of the bed varies depending on the distance between the rug and the bedside tables.
The main thing is that your feet rest on the carpet when getting out of bed.
2. For the baby and child’s room
In a child's room, be creative!
Everything is permitted, as long as colors match the style of the room.
For example, you can put a rug 80×150 cm at the bottom of the bed, on one or both sides of the bed.
For more comfort, opt for a larger rug like a 120×170 cm or a 135×190 cm.
These formats are perfect for creating a comfortable play area, because children spend a lot of time on the floor.
You can also choose a round rug to soften the atmosphere.
The possibilities are numerous!
